Role Description

Core Purpose

To deliver courses to students on the 14 week Professional Data Analysis course. To provide support to students on short courses at CodeClan. To actively support and work with students with classroom, lab and project work on a one-to-one basis and in small groups. To provide technical guidance, problem-solving support and mentoring to students. To develop your own teaching and facilitation skills. To deliver lessons supported by Instructors. To support new TA’s joining the team.

Responsibilities

Delivery of lessons and provision of support to students during lessons and assignments ensuring that:

• Participate in teaching lessons under supervision of Instructors
• Provide technical assistance to students: debugging code, provide support on homeworks, assist students with technical issues
• Issues are identified and students supported promptly
• Class notes and materials are given to students in a timely manner
• Instructor team members are supported in lessons, labs and project delivery
• TA is assisted in making sure accurate student attendance and homework
  records are maintained
• Review of notes, materials and/or learning resources is provided when
  required
• Feedback is provided to students on their progression
• Student learning or behaviour issues are identified and appropriate staff
  notified
• Assistance is provided in Meet Your Cohort, Student Journey, Webinar, and
  Taster activities
• Own skills and knowledge of course curriculum is extended and consolidated
• Training completed throughout role to ensure you are confident and able to
  teach broadly on the course at a later date
• Alignment with CodeClan’s business objectives and our values at all times

Experience Required

Essential

• Experience of mentoring junior staff, teaching, or assisting in a classroom environment (~1 year as a CodeClan TA or in a similar role in industry or academia)
• Have worked with data in some form (academic or business context)
• Experience of up to date data analysis packages in R and/or Python
• Experience debugging code
• Experience with statistics
• Good communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non technical audiences
• Good organisational skills and the ability to multitask
• Collaborative teamworking mindset
• Interest in progression to leading cohorts and teaching short courses
• Willingness and passion to learn new things

Desirable

• Experience of SQL
• Awareness of machine learning techniques
• Familiarity with version control software (git/github)
• Familiarity with RShiny
• Interest in mentoring technical assistants
