Our 2018 stats are here and we couldn’t be more thrilled

2018 was always going to be a big year at CodeClan and it’s proved to be just that.

As we take a look back on the past year, we can’t help feeling inspired by the achievements of our students and partners, and more than a little chuffed to have been a part of their journeys.

Here are some of the numbers…

15 cohorts graduated from our Professional Software Development course in Edinburgh and Glasgow

We had six cohorts of students graduating in Glasgow and nine in Edinburgh, and we’re looking forward to starting with Cohorts E28 and G11 in January 2019. A significant part of growth this year was our rollout of staff sponsorship opportunities for employers.

We also celebrated the 500th graduate from our Professional Software Development course, Iona Macbeth. With a career background in Communications, she has now started her first job in Scotland’s digital technology industry.

205 secured digital and tech jobs

205 more CodeClan graduates are out there, working in tech across Scotland and beyond. Their roles include software development, testing, support engineering, product management and more.

Three nominations and one big win!

CodeClan Instructors holding an award

We won the award for Best Education/Training provider at the ScotlandIS Digital Tech Awards 2018. The Digital Technologies Awards celebrate Scotland’s digital industry. And the team were over the moon to pick up this award for the second year in a row!

We were also delighted to be recognised by the Scottish Women In Tech Awards as our CEO Melinda Matthews-Clarkson was nominated for Leader of the Year. She was also shortlisted for Diversity in Tech Champion at the inaugural Scottish Tech Start-up awards.

16 community coding events

We sponsored or hosted 16 coding events, clubs and workshops with the aim of supporting and encouraging young and underrepresented people to get involved in tech and further education in digital. Events included 10 codebar workshops, 5 Coder Dojo clubs and the Girl Guides.

Five Digital Women’s Group events

At the start of the year our CEO Melinda Matthews-Clarkson launched the Digital Women’s Group. We’ve had five great events this year featuring guest speakers and alumni, all to help create a more confident and diverse community.

14 student groups completed client experience projects

In July, we started prototyping opportunities for Professional Software Development students to get real client experience with live projects in Third Sector organisations. Since an initial success with Beyond Green, 14 groups have participated.

124 students have paired with 75 industry mentors

A testament to our dedicated community, we’ve seen an overwhelmingly positive response to our request for volunteer mentors from the digital industry. We’ll see more mentoring next year, thanks in no small part to our Alumni and Employer Partners.

What’s next for 2019?

You’ll be hearing more about our relaunched Partner Programme early in the new year, which will continue to focus on transforming careers and helping Scottish businesses to innovate and close the digital skills gap.

We’ll be hosting new networking events and Digital Talks which will create more opportunities for our community to learn, hire and grow.

And… our first Highland Cohort of 15 students will get the opportunity to learn full-stack web development in Inverness.

Be a part of our story in 2019

Thanks for being part of CodeClan’s success this year. Look out for our next events in January and get involved with the CodeClan community.
