For Adam, CodeClan was the stepping stone he needed to a more challenging career.
Born and bred in Edinburgh, Adam graduated from Heriot-Watt University with a degree in Accountancy and Finance, before working as a recruitment consultant and a pensions & insurance administrator.
“After graduation, I worked for a number of different companies in a range of roles,” says Adam. “Whilst I enjoyed these positions, I knew that I wanted to find something that would motivate me to learn new things every day.”
Although he started to look into university and college courses, each of them required at least another two to four years of study, something Adam wasn’t keen to do.
“Then I found CodeClan and realised it offered the perfect solution. Instead of attending one or two lectures a day for several years, I could attend a 9 to 5 intensive course over a shorter space of time.”
Adam decided to take his interest in coding further and apply to CodeClan, joining Cohort 3 in early 2016 and studying for 16 weeks in Edinburgh.
Finding a dream job
In December 2016 he secured a role as a Junior Software Engineer for Sopra Steria, a leader in the field of digital transformation and one of 80 employer partners CodeClan works with to place students in employment.
“What I liked [about Sopra Steria] was that they had visited CodeClan a number of times to present to the students about their company,” says Adam. “I was impressed that given their size, they dedicated time to come and speak to the students about the opportunities they had available to help us develop our careers.
“I’m looking forward to expanding my coding knowledge with them in years to come.”
