Our events bring employers face-to-face with programming students.
Speed Networking sessions take place regularly at our Edinburgh and Glasgow campuses, allowing students enrolled on our 16-week programming course to meet employers looking to hire into junior technical roles in Scotland’s booming tech scene.
One recent event saw students get suited and booted as 10 employers arrived at CodeClan to meet the students coming to the end of their intensive course.
Speed dating with a difference
Riffing on a speed dating theme, students took their places around the office and employers were given 10 minutes with each of them, allowing the latter an opportunity to better understand the career ambitions of the Cohort.
Students were also afforded an opportunity to hear first-hand what Scottish companies across various sectors are looking for in their digital teams.
“I found it a brilliant way to meet employers in a relaxed atmosphere,” said Chris, one of the Cohort. “The idea of facing multiple interviews is a daunting one, but the event helped break the ice. We heard about various tech jobs available after we leave CodeClan, many of which I wouldn’t have known about otherwise.”
A success for students and employers
According to Leigh-Ann Donoghue from the Student Placement team, such events have proven popular with both students and employers, often leading directly to job opportunities.
“We run the Networking event for each Cohort,” said Leigh-Ann. “Employers enjoy it as it’s an opportunity to put themselves in front of committed career changers – it’s an absolute must-visit event if they’re hiring.”
The Speed Networking event was also a success with employers such as Deloitte’s Jonathan Meddes, who noted on Twitter that it “was another great opportunity to meet passionate junior devs.”
