Five year interest-free government loan offers Scottish businesses new digital skills

Retrain your staff. Retain your staff.

Small and Medium Enterprises in Scotland can now access a whole range of training from CodeClan, thanks to the Scottish government’s Digital Development Loan, which allows businesses to borrow from £5,000 – £50,000, interest free, over a period of up to five years.

Our growing programme of short courses, bespoke courses, flagship 16-week Professional Software Development (PSD) course and soon to be launched Data Analytics course, are all eligible for the loan, enabling companies across Scotland to develop their staff and provide them with valuable new technical skills to improve economic productivity and enable growth.

The Digital Development Loan also opens up new opportunities for organisations to sponsor employees through our PSD and Data Analytics courses. Enabling business owners to retain intelligence and avoid losing staff members, who may be at risk of redundancy or looking for new career paths within their organisation.

Melinda Matthews-Clarkson, CEO of CodeClan said of the opportunity: “The digital development loan will allow companies and organisations of all kinds to give themselves the technical skills they need to succeed in the rapidly evolving digital world.

“The Scottish government has listened to industry and has put money on the table to allow businesses across the country to upskill employees. The inclusive approach to ‘improving digital capabilities’ ensures that all of our courses are eligible for the loan, opening our services up to SMEs across the entire country.”

“We’re absolutely thrilled that we can use this new fund to open our services up to an even greater range of companies to bridge Scotland’s digital skills gap. We’re now sign-posting all of our courses to ensure every company, industry partner and visitor to our website is aware of and can take advantage of the loan.”

“CodeClan is soon to launch an upskilling course specifically geared towards data, so this couldn’t come at a better time.”

Liz McCutcheon, Operations Manager, LESL said: “The Digital Development Loan is a fantastic source of funding for Scottish SMEs to improve their digital capabilities and ensure staff are fully trained in the latest technologies.”

The Digital Development Loan was launched by the Scottish Government in June 2018. Since then almost £300,000 has been provided to assist business in Scotland, with a further £200,000 in the pipeline.
