Learn about the CodeClan team – their career journey so far, their passions and interests, as well as their day to day work life.
Meet Mhairi, an Instructor at CodeClan. We had a chat with her about why she wanted to work at CodeClan, her advice for those looking to change their career, and what she gets up to in her free time…
Tell us a bit about your role and why you wanted to join the CodeClan team
I work as an Instructor for the Data Analysis course for two days a week. I’m just about to move to Shetland so I teach on the online cohorts only.
What did you do before joining CodeClan?
I worked as a freelance Data Scientist, and I still do! That’s what I do the other three days a week.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
I always get pretty emotional around the final projects and graduation. It’s amazing to see how much the students can do after only 14 weeks and I love everyone’s individual takes on the problems they are working on.
What advice do you have for someone who is thinking of studying at CodeClan?
My main advice is: go for it! It can be very intense but also very fun and you’ll be amazed by how much you can learn.
What do you get up to in your free time?
I’m at my happiest when I’m in the sea; just swimming is good but if I can be surfing that’s even better! I also like reading, generally being outside, the cinema, my dog, cooking, knitting and lately I’ve been trying to learn to draw.
What’s your favourite book?
Anna Karenina by Leo Tostoy but I mostly read trashy true crime books.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself!
I once forgot how to ride a bike!
