Learn about the CodeClan team – their career journey so far, their passions and interests, as well as their day to day work life.
Meet Robyn, our Partner Account Manager. We had a chat with her about why she chose to work at CodeClan, her advice for those looking to change their career, and what she gets up to in her free time…
Tell us a bit about your role and why you wanted to join the CodeClan team
I work as the Partner Account Manager for CodeClan so it’s my role to grow our current partner programme and also work alongside our hiring partner network to assist them in growing their own teams with our talented CodeClan graduates.
I had known about CodeClan and been keeping an eye on them for a few years so when I noticed the role I applied straight away. I’m passionate about tech and the capabilities and opportunities that can arise from it as well as meeting new people so the role sounded the perfect fit!
What did you do before joining CodeClan?
Before I joined CodeClan I had worked within Business Development at a top UK digital agency in Leeds as well as agency and in-house recruitment. At the agency I got to work with some really cool and well known brands and some very inspiring people which has been invaluable. When working in recruitment I was always drawn to education and promoting diversity in the workforce (School/Uni isn’t for everyone and there’s many paths into a successful career) and worked closely with other local businesses and charities to further progress this initiative.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
I have two favourite parts. I love meeting new people and businesses. I’m naturally a very inquisitive person and always asking questions so getting to talk to lots of different people, find out about their companies and assist in finding solutions for them every single day is so interesting and satisfying. In the morning I could be discussing software that gathers data from the human body and in the afternoon I’m discussing a creative agency’s latest web build. There is never a dull day.
I also love being part of a company who are contributing to the growth of the Scottish Tech landscape. Scotland has some amazing tech and talent coming out of it and being able to see CodeClan graduates be a part of that is pretty cool and something to celebrate.
What advice do you have for someone who is thinking of studying at CodeClan?
Go for it! I would say a good starting point is attending one of the taster sessions and asking as many questions as you can. Also think outside the box – there are so many avenues and job titles that can come from the courses.
What do you get up to in your free time?
I am a big yes person and will try anything once. I love keeping busy and active and getting away (not a fan of not having fun) so I’ll jump in my car/van on a Friday eve and drive 3 hours up north to go climbing the next day. I also have a couple of paddleboards which I take everywhere on the off chance the weather is decent and paddle on different lochs or bays with my friends. In the summer my now 9 year old daughter and I did the NC500 together and lived in the van for a week which was so much fun. So in short – hiking, paddleboarding, climbing, dog walking, cycling and most recently snowboarding!
What’s your favourite book?
I’m currently reading Atomic Habits which I couldn’t recommend enough if you want to make small changes that can produce big results in your life. It’s really changed my way of thinking and doing.
Who would you most like to swap places with for a day?
someone who has a yacht in Costa Rica. It’s somewhere I would love to visit when we’re allowed to!
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself!
I once had cocktails with Billy Connolly.
