Meet the team – Jessica Longstaff

Jess joined the CodeClan team over a year ago as our Student Admissions Officer and gives guidance to those looking to upskill and reskill digitally. If you’re applying to one of our courses, it’s very likely that she’ll be the first person you speak to!
We had a chat with her about why she chose to work at CodeClan, her advice for those looking to change their career, and what she gets up to in her free time…

So Jess, why did you want to join the CodeClan team?

I came from an IT Recruitment/Business Development background and already had a love for the tech industry so when I noticed CodeClan was hiring for this role I was SO delighted, I’d been watching them for a while and it was perfect for me. It’s been an amazing thing to be part of.

What would you say your CodeClan career highlight has been so far?

The amazing people I’ve met – students, colleagues, industry experts – to name a few! It’s a real hub of creativity and innovation. I’m surrounded by the best people and every day I feel very fortunate.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

I love meeting new people and I get to be really nosy and learn all about peoples lives – their journeys, where they’ve come from and why they want to join CodeClan. Also, watching the students grow through CodeClan and graduate to fly the nest and get their dream job is SO rewarding. I see people change their life for the better and it’s helping Scotland’s economy.

What advice would you give someone who’s considering studying at CodeClan?

Do it! It’s incredible what our students achieve in such a short period of time and they all speak so highly of our courses. Our courses are not easy but they’re so rewarding and the contacts you make here are great. Our instructor team is fantastic and they all do such an amazing job.

What do you do in your free time?

I’m obsessed with fitness so I’m always training for some kind of event from triathlons to tough mudder, to spartan and marathons. When I’m not doing that I also perform in theatre shows (I can never sit still). And when I’m not out and about I’ll be at home hanging out with my fiance and our puppy Oakley!

Who would you most like to swap places with for a day?

My puppy 🐶

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself!

I used to write music articles and have had my work published in various magazines.
