“ …your performance will actually improve if you can commit to not only working hard, but also unplugging, recharging and renewing yourself” – Arianna Huffington
The immersive courses we offer at CodeClan can be intense. The paced, hours and new learning experience for students who haven’t coded before is at times challenging.
Hundreds of hours of code-alongs, labs and homework require a healthy routine that works for you, a foundation of self-care, the ability to focus and good energy levels.
These different aspects are all related to wellbeing, which is foundational to learning. Offering students information, advice and support regarding wellbeing is part of our strategy to support them on this journey and to also hopefully bring ease and joy to their learning process.
Emphasising wellbeing during the course can help students recognise that a strong foundation for success includes a healthy body and a healthy state of mind; this will serve them not only during the course, but way beyond it, in their careers.
A strong sense of wellbeing is at the foundation of all learning and activity. During our immersive courses, we integrate the subject of wellbeing into many of the talks and sessions we deliver to students, including those related to learning, project managements or teamwork.
A healthy sense of self, strong routines, tips on how to manage projects or how to be a great team player are all important ingredients to one’s learning and success. These are all the ways in which we bring the subject of wellbeing to students at CodeClan.
Monthly wellbeing talks and workshops including sessions with our partners at Edinburgh Yoga Community and Isha Foundation.
In these sessions, students learn about stress and burnout. You’ll learn how to cultivate a calm mind through movement, maintaining a good posture through yogic practices for neck, shoulders, and back, and cultivating relaxation through breathing exercises and meditations.
1-to-1 coaching on learning and wellbeing, focused on identifying the best habits, practices and tools to support one’s learning. In these meetings, students have a chance to look as simple things such as food, sleep, movement; good practices and tools for learning; relaxation and calming practices; identifying blockers, discussing and finding solutions.
Step back. Relax. Recharge. This is a space full of possibilities to reconnect!
